PAPP CAPSULES NOW REGISTERED FOR USE IN CANID PEST EJECTORS (CPEs)

Following further significant investment in Research and Development in Vertebrate Pest Management, ACTA announces that the APVMA has now approved the use of capsules, containing PAPP (Para-aminopropriophenone) for use in Canid Pest Ejectors which are specifically targeted at wild dogs and foxes.

This is an important progression for wild dog and fox control, giving livestock producers, agencies and land managers an additional option to use in the battle to minimise impacts by these predators. It will also allow PAPP to be utilised in areas where susceptible non target animals (mainly Goannas) exist.

The Canid Pest Ejector is an easy to use mechanism that restricts non-target access to the chosen toxicant. As the units can’t be moved when positioned correctly, operators know exactly where the live sets are, can see when they are triggered, and with the quicker action of PAPP, are more likely to discover the carcase.

In 2018, an ACTA contracted study by the University of Southern Queensland showed that 10 of 11 wild dogs died within 3 hours of PAPP ingestion with an average time to death of 84 minutes. Carcasses of wild dogs were found between 30 and 200m from the CPE, averaging a distance of 96m.

The PAPP capsules contain 400mg of PAPP powder for foxes and 1000mg for wild dogs.

CPE capsules containing 1080 are still available
